The Agencies

In attendance we had five DRI's, five hearing terps, four agencies represented, a few committee members, three panelists and one experienced terp.

Sandi Leane welcomed everyone with a brief summary of ASLIA Vic.

Our first agency spokesperson was Cathy Clark from CABS who explained how CABS came to be, who designed their website and the difference between CABS and other agencies. Karina Quinn, representing Vicdeaf, signed a great introduction to VAIS, and made sure we all understood that no, she isn't married to Mark Quinn! She was closely followed by Ryan Gook who took great pleasure in donning his Auslan Services hat to fill us in on the agency.  Danielle Don (neé Hargraeves) was hot on his trail and signed the story of Echo at a million miles an hour.

Ryan then donned his Awards Committee hat (or perhaps more appropriately 'Top Hat') to explain the when, where and why of the Awards. Half the tickets have now been sold, so get in quick!

Break time so we all raced towards the massive bowl of Thai noodles that Eliza had made, then slowly waddled back to our seats for a quick introduction of ourselves - better late than never we thought!

We finished the evening with our panelists: Megan Bushby, Kirri Dangerfield and Danielle Don receiving an array of questions from the new interpreters.  Each of our panelists had varying years of interpreting experience, so some of the answers were quite different, but all were enlightening. Thanks so much Megan, Kirri and Dan!

Thanks to NABS for sending out information packs filled with goodies for our new terps, and also a big thanks to Sally Freeman from La Trobe University who has kindly offered to setup viewing times of interpreted lectures for any new terps that may be interested.

Thanks to all the new terps who attended and to the representatives of the four agencies; it was an enjoyable evening. Thanks to everyone for filling in the feedback forms, we shall be able to improve future workshops thanks to your feedback.

Feel free to contact us if you want any more information from the evening.
