ASLIA Vic & VDEI 2012 workshops for educational interpreters
The Victorian Deaf Education Institute (VDEI) has commissioned ASLIA Vic to run a series of workshops in 2012 for educational interpreters. There will be four workshops across the year, each taking place over two days – one day in metro Melbourne, and the second in Bendigo for regional interpreters.
Topics covered will include Linguistics, Auslan Vocab, Classroom boundaries, Teamwork, Storytelling, Idioms and much more! ASLIA Vic have sourced the highest calibre of presenters from all over Australia.
Workshop One
Workshop 1 on Monday 30th & Tuesday 31st January 2012 will be presented by Assoc. Professor Adam Schembri, BA DipEd, MLitt, PhD on the "Linguistics and Sociolinguistics of Auslan".
Here Adam will discuss some myths and misunderstandings about sign languages, before moving onto to discuss aspects of the formational structure and grammar of Auslan, variation and change in Auslan, and how an understanding of Auslan linguistics is important for sign language interpreters.
