ASLIA Vic Bursary Criteria and Application

Criteria for awarding of the annual ASLIA Vic Bursary

The ASLIA Vic Bursary is a sum of money set aside in every financial year for the exclusive purpose of supporting the ongoing education of practising interpreters.
The amount currently stands at $250

The ASLIA Vic committee shall award the bursary by decision of the full committee at a general meeting.

To apply for the bursary an applicant must:

1. be a fully paid financial member of ASLIA Vic for at least two consecutive preceding years;

2. have the intention of continuing to be a member of ASLIA Vic;

3. outline how the study is related to and will enhance the interpreting skills and/or career of the applicant;

4. provide proof of enrolment in an appropriate tertiary course;

5. be willing to attend a short interview with the committee if deemed appropriate;

6. accept the committee’s decision as final;


7. agree to supply two written reports on academic progress. The first, midway through the course or if the course is greater than 12 months in duration, six months after commencing the course. Secondly, at the completion of the course or where the course runs beyond 12 months at the end of the 12 month bursary period. This report shall be no less than 400 words;

8. notify the committee if and when the initial course has been completed;

9. inform the committee if the course of study in the bursary year is terminated. The committee may request that the funds in whole or part be returned.
